Ferrari 599 GTB 60F1 (2011) first official pictures

Ferrari is launching a special pack of paint and trim options on the 599, called the 599 GTB 60F1. It's designed to mark six decades of winning in Formula 1 (not something the scuderia has done much of in 2011).

Froilan Gonzalez won Ferrari's first F1 race in the 375 F1 car back in July 1951; 60 years later, Fernando Alonso won Ferrari's first race of the current season in the 150° Italia.

What's new on the Ferrari 599 GTB 60F1?

It's based on the HGTE version of the 599 GTB, so you get the stiffer dampers and pointier responses of the HGTE package.

Visually the 60F1 has styling flourishes inspired by Gonzalez's and Alonso's F1 cars, with a choice of three liveries:

• The 375 F1 colour scheme with a scarlet first used back in the 1950s
• The 150° Italia hues – with the latest-generation rosso paint and white lower bumpers, A-pillars and buttresses
• A version of the above but without the bling-white A-pillars

All the cars get 20in diamond-finish forged alloy wheels, satin-finish fuel filler cap and scuderia shields painted on the front wings.

Inside gets a similar race-spec feel: Sabelt straps, dark technical fabrics and grippy Alcantara, and Sabelt seats in Europe, Recaro buckets in the US.

Naturally, there's a plaque on the dashboard, too, featuring the signatures of Gonzalez and Alonso.

Sounds like a special edition to us… is the 599 in its twilight years?

Good spot, yes it is. The 599 is due to be replaced in 2012 at next spring's Geneva motor show, and is tipped to be the most powerful roadgoing Ferrari of all time with an upgraded V12 nabbed from the FF.

Ferrari insists the 599 GTB 60F1 isn't a special or limited edition and will be available on every single 599 sold until the car's death.
